A wig lets you completely change your hairstyle in a few minutes or conceal hair loss. Before you choose a model, it is worth knowing the basic types of wigs, how to choose the size and how to care for them. Wigs are currently not part of our range – below, however, you will find a hairdresser's tips and the solutions we do offer in our shop.

Synthetic or natural hair wig?

  • Synthetic – lighter and cheaper, returns to its factory style after washing. Ordinary synthetic fibre cannot withstand high temperatures; wigs made of heat-resistant synthetic fibre hair can be heat styled, but only up to the temperature specified by the manufacturer.
  • Natural hair – looks the most natural and can be styled like your own hair, but needs more care and is more expensive.

Wig construction

A wig is built on a cap (base) to which the hair is attached. Models with lace at the front (lace front) give a natural-looking hairline above the forehead, and a monofilament base on the crown imitates the scalp and lets you part the hair more freely.

How to choose the size?

Measure your head circumference with a tape measure: along the hairline above the forehead, above the ears and across the back of the head, back to the starting point. Compare the result with the manufacturer's size chart. Many wigs have an adjuster inside the cap that lets you adjust the circumference by a few centimetres.

Wig care

  • Brush the wig gently, from the ends upwards – a synthetic wig with a brush for synthetic hair, ideally one with natural boar bristles.
  • Wash it in lukewarm water with a mild shampoo; do not rub or wring the hair.
  • Press out the water with a towel and dry the wig on a stand or wig head, away from heat sources.
  • Store it on a stand or in a box so that it keeps its shape.

When hair is thinning only on the crown

You do not always need a full wig. For thinning or see-through areas on the crown, a topper works well – a partial hairpiece attached with clips that blends with your own hairstyle. You can add length and volume with clip-in hair extensions or a ponytail extension. You will find boar bristle brushes in the Brushes category.
