The longer the ponytail, the higher the weight – this keeps the hair density similar, so the ponytail doesn't weigh down your scalp. Curls and waves visually shorten a ponytail, so an afro curl model looks shorter than a straight one of the same length. For more tips, see our guide how to choose ponytail length and weight.
Frequently asked questions
What are QueenFH ponytails made of?
Our ponytails are made of heat-resistant synthetic fibre hair – a high-quality synthetic fibre with a structure similar to natural hair. This makes them look realistic and feel lightweight, and they can be heat-styled up to 180 °C.
Mesh-base or claw clip ponytail – which one should I choose?
The mesh-base version works best for thicker hair of medium or longer length: the elastic mesh hides your own ponytail underneath and gives a full, even result. The claw clip version is for fine or shorter hair – the strong claw clip holds the ponytail securely even when you have less hair of your own. For a detailed comparison, see our guide mesh-base or claw clip ponytail.
Which ponytail length and weight should I choose?
Our ponytails range from 35 cm and 85 g to 90 cm and 180 g. Shorter, lighter ones (35–55 cm) are comfortable for everyday wear, while long ones (70–90 cm) create the most spectacular effect for an evening out, a wedding or a photo shoot. You can compare all variants in the table above.
Can a ponytail extension be straightened and curled?
Yes. Heat-resistant fibre hair can be straightened and curled at temperatures up to 180 °C. Straighten a straight ponytail with a flat iron; curly ponytails can additionally be styled with a curling iron. Higher temperatures can damage the fibres – find out more in our guide heat styling a heat-resistant ponytail.
How do I wash a heat-resistant ponytail?
Rarely – the less often you wash it, the longer it keeps its beautiful look. Immerse it in lukewarm or cool water with shampoo, without scrubbing or squeezing. Then soak it in water with conditioner and press it dry in a towel without wringing. You can dry a straight ponytail with the cool setting of a hairdryer; leave a curly one to dry naturally. Full instructions: how to care for heat-resistant ponytails.
What should I use to brush a ponytail extension?
A brush designed for synthetic hair, ideally a boar bristle brush – you will find these in the Brushes category. Avoid plastic combs. Detangle curly ponytails only when wet, with conditioner, starting from the ends.
Can a heat-resistant ponytail be dyed?
Don't use permanent dyes – they can damage the fibres. To refresh or slightly change the shade, you can use a toner, a colour rinse, a colour-depositing mask or a purple shampoo.
How do I match the ponytail colour to my hair?
Compare the colour in daylight with the hair that stays visible once the ponytail is tied – on the crown and at the sides. If you have highlights or darker roots, ombre, sombre and multi-tonal shades work well.
